Tell Your Senators to Support Stem Cell Research Legislation

Due to overwhelming public support and the actions of people like you, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has agreed to hold a vote on stem cell research. Stem cells are "blank" cells that have the potential to develop into any type of cell in the body -- nerve cells, heart cells, kidney cells. This gives scientists hope that stem cells could one day treat diseases such as Alzheimer's, diabetes, cancer, Parkinson's, and heart disease.

This is a rare opportunity for Congress to significantly improve the quality of peoples lives. But the religious right has vowed to fight this bill.

We have a unique opportunity to strike a victory for science and medicine. Please tell your senators to vote yes on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act.

I am glad to hear that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist will be bringing this bill up for a vote before the August recess. I am writing to ask that today you vote to support the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, which rescinds the ban on federal support for embryonic stem cell research.

Embryonic stem cell research is potentially the most promising source of treatments for millions of Americans suffering from diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and array of other afflictions.

The President's 2001 ban on federal support for embryonic stem cell research, which this bill would rescind, has left these Americans' health, and hope, in jeopardy. I urge you to vote YES on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act when Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist brings the bill up for a vote.

Sincerely,
