Give Us a Plan for a Financially-Secure America!

It used to be that if you worked hard, raised your family and played by the rules, you'd be OK. But that's no longer true. Today, the burden of saving for retirement, paying for health care and supporting aging parents falls much more heavily on individuals.

For many people, the American dream is eroding. The presidential candidates have said too little about the long-term financial security crisis Americans face every day. Over the next couple weeks, the presidential candidates will do their best to reach voters in the final key primaries. Now, during this critical period for both sides, it is time to demand that leaders develop a real plan of action.

Dear [Presidential Candidate],

I believe that Americans who work hard and play by the rules deserve to be able to retire without worrying about their financial situation. Sadly, this cornerstone of the American dream is crumbling.

Millions of Americans are barely scraping by in today's economy. Saving for the future is near impossible. And traditional sources of retirement income, like pension plans, are disappearing.

It's not a partisan issue - it's an American issue. Every presidential candidate should be talking about it, and laying out clear, concrete and detailed plans for how to solve the crisis facing all of us.
Divided We Fail believes that:

- Workers should be provided with financial incentives to save, should have access to effective retirement plans, and should be able to keep working and contributing to society regardless of age.

- Americans of all ages should have access to tools to help manage their finances, and save for the future and better, easy to understand information to help them increase their financial literacy and manage their money wisely.

- Social Security must be strengthened without burdening future generations.

Like millions of Americans, I will be listening closely to what both sides of the aisle are saying in the coming weeks. I want to hear how the candidates plan to achieve the goals above.
